Transportation Recommendations

A car is not needed. The apartment is located within easy walking distance of the center of town.  Grocery stores, banks and various retailers are all very convenient.  Transportation is only needed to visit members of the branch that are scattered across the northern half of the island and for recreational excursions. The Church is less than 100 yds from the apartment.

Health & Safety Conditions

The one private hospital in the country with good medical care is less than 3 miles away from the apartment. This is one of the best hospital facilities in the Caribbean with many UK trained doctors in most of the specialties. This is AEA's best location for the quality of medical care. Overall medical care is typical for developing countries.

Branch of Church

Your housing is in the boundaries of the Castries Branch. The Church meets in a rented building just a 100 yards away. Covid took a toll on the branch and current attendance is about 15-20. There are many members that need fellowshipping and love to return to activity.

Handling of Expenses

The cost information about each location includes an estimated monthly budget as well as one-time expenses like airfare. Depending on your own lifestyle choices your expenses may be more or less. You will directly pay for all of your own expenses except for lodging. AEA has contracted for long-term leases for the housing locations and you will make monthly rent payments to AEA while serving as a volunteer. The monthly lodging rates shown in the budget above are current and fixed.  When you apply and reserve an AEA location you will be charged the first month's rent in advance as a refundable deposit. Subsequent rent will be paid monthly, one month in advance. The AEA Local Coordinator will show you how to pay any other local expenses.
